Emma's story

I started with hmv as a graduate trainee store manager in 1998, working in the north west region. I was then promoted to assistant manager and worked in various stores in the west midlands and the south east regions. I was then promoted to store manager of the tunbridge wells store, before moving into hr in 2004. I joined hr because the people side of the job was what I enjoyed most, and coming from a stores background has really helped me in my role in hr – I started as an hr advisor in our hr service centre, and was promoted to hr manager in 2006.

as hr manager in the retail hr team I provide support to 5 regional managers and their managers, to devise and deliver hmv's people strategy.  I work on a variety of projects to make life easier for people in stores, we look after the welfare of all store colleagues, making sure we recruit and develop the right people, dealing with any issues along the way, and providing managers with the skills to be able to do this.
