Rudy's story

hmv taught me not to be afraid of change, but to embrace it. It taught me that I’m much happier being stretched and working outside my comfort zone than being bored. It taught me that just as you need a whole shop full of CDs to make a record shop work, you need the whole team pulling together to make hmv work. And once I learned those lessons I was able to take maximum advantage of the opportunities for training, coaching, and advancement that hmv offers; moving from sales assistant to team leader, changing stores, moving to head office to be a music buyer and then to games to be a manager, back to music as the commercial manager and then to become head of dvd, before moving back to music to assume my current role

I’m now the head of music & related merchandise for the UK, Republic of Ireland, and of course online. What I try to do is take great ideas and convert them into actions that create value for hmv. What that means is working closely with my team, hopefully helping to coach, motivate, and empower them to deliver the best service and support to our stores and ultimately our customers. I work closely with our key suppliers and the other departments within hmv to champion our music initiatives.
